Refugees ensure a clean Leichlingen

More than 20 refugee men, women and children responded to the call of Eva, Peter and Önder and participated in the trash collection campaign of the city of Leichlingen. For this they grab gloves, garbage tongs and plastic bags and together they collected the garbage. They found the commitment quite natural “We live here and we want to help”. The necessity of the action showed “Many heavily filled garbage bags” were placed in front of the city hall afterwards. “Whether pots, dog bags, car wheel covers, plastic bags, paper or bottles – any amount of this carelessly discarded trash was disposed of by us,” Önder Balkaya said.

Eva and Peter work together in the mornings to help refugees learn German at the AWO. Joint project of “Leichlingen Hilft” – AWO and the Ecumenical Working Group.
