A successful International Breakfast – A Celebration of Cultures and Dance with Culinary Highlights and Fundraiser

On April 22, 2023, a successful International Breakfast was held at the Catholic Parish Hall in Leichlingen. After months of planning and organization by the event team, the time had finally come. The big question was whether there was enough food and whether all 68 registered participants would show up.

Around 9 o’clock, the participants could all be counted on one hand and the food was already on the buffet. The children could not resist the delicious food and started snacking. The adults followed shortly after and the planned opening statement had to be postponed. It was not until around 10:30 a.m. that the welcoming speech could be given.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the children were picked up by dance instructor Ramona Kierspel and taken to the dance workshops for children. Ms. Kierspel is known for her passionate and compassionate way of teaching children to dance. In her dance school Steptouch in Leichlingen, she not only teaches technique, but also the joy of dancing and the importance of music and rhythm.

While the children were dancing and playing, the Turkish band started the music at 11 o’clock, which impressed everyone very much. A short time later, the first guests already stood up and danced along. There was a very good, friendly and quite open atmosphere throughout, not only for the food, but also for the people around. Many guests got into conversation and exchanged ideas. It was a wonderful event with wonderful guests.

The parents enjoyed the food and music while the children had their fun and learned new dance steps. They only briefly interrupted their dancing for a drink break before immediately resuming.

In the end, a total of almost 60 people were there and enjoyed the food. A donation of 250 EUR was even collected for the victims of the earthquake in the Turkish city of Malatya. Perhaps new friendships were also formed that day, which can be continued at the next International Breakfast.

Overall, it was a very successful International Breakfast with many cultural highlights and a successful mix of food, music and dance. We are already looking forward to next year!

Malatya is located on the edge of the epicenter, many buildings and infrastructure were heavily damaged to totally destroyed. Well over 2300 people lost their lives there,
Even two months after the earthquake, many tens of thousands of people still have to live in tent and container cities.
